Travels to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

We love our ERGObaby carrier … and most importantly so does our son, Ben!  I’m finding it so much more comfortable than other carriers I’ve tried as all the weight is taken on the hips meaning no shoulder strain which has caused me terrible headaches in the past.  Ben seems to find it really comfortable and has a greater degree of movement than I’d expected when he’s in the carrier, which is great for a curious little boy!

I’ve attached a photo of us at Currumbin Wildlife sanctuary where we had a great time recently feeding the lorikeets!

We’re very happy with the service and product we’ve received from you and would recommend!

Travels in Europe with a baby, toddler and an ERGObaby carrier!

I love my ERGObaby carrier! It’s the best carrier in the world. We have travelled around Australia, America, England, Germany, France, and Italy with it and it’s never missed a beat.

It’s hard to say when the Ergo has been at its most useful, at the airport, winding through little cobbled streets, climbing thousands of stairs or bushwalking. One thing is for sure, the way it folds up to practically nothing has been a life saver and when it gets dirty, we can just throw it in the wash.

We went to so many places you couldn’t have gotten away with carrying in your arms or pushing a stroller. We were out for long days regularly so Zadan would just have his nap on the go, safe and snuggled up with his Mum or Dad. We could wear the Ergo for hours and hours without getting uncomfortable. Up high in the Ergo, Zadan was always right in the action, so he could see everything that was going on.

I also really love the way it’s so easy to put the kids in and out of the Ergo.

Sizing Tips for the Peanut Shell Original Sling

Sizing Tips for the Peanut Shell Original Sling

Untitled-1 copy

Our Peanut Shell(r) baby slings are designed to fit the person wearing
the sling. Sizing is based on your overall upper body size, torso
length, personal preference and height. You will want the baby sling to
fit snug but feel comfortable. With baby inside the sling, the baby
should ride in line with your hip bones or above. As your baby grows you
will use the variety of carrying positions all in the same sling.

The most important key to successful use of the Peanut Shell(r) baby
sling is to first get the right size. Keep in mind that that even with
all of our guidance the “correct” size sling is what safely works for
you and your baby. Most people can wear 2 different sizes in our baby
slings-as you can in clothes. There are many factors that affect sizing
so don’t hesitate to email us prior to ordering to
let us help you find the size that will work best for you and your baby.

If you have a Peanut Shell(r) baby sling that is too big your baby will
not feel secure and will ride too low on your body (lower than your hip
bones). This is not only unsafe for your child but may also lead to back
and/or shoulder discomfort. If the baby sling is too small you won’t
even be able to get the baby in or you will feel like you can’t breathe.
Keep in mind that the correct fit of the Peanut Shell(r) baby sling
should feel snug with baby inside BUT you should be comfortable. If you
are new to sling wearing, with the correct snug fit, you may even think
it is too small.

Please use the information provided on this page to help you pick the
correct size baby sling. We have created our chart over
time using our expertise that comes with fitting thousands of parents
and have found it to be very accurate. However, as each person is shaped
different, each person will have a personal preference cannot be
accounted for. This chart is a suggestion and not a guarantee.

What Size Am I?

Please follow our instructions below:
Use the chart below to determine your approximate size.

view

With the baby inside the sling the lowest part of the sling should rest
in line or ABOVE your hip bones.
See the illustration below for a guide to where the sling should lay.
Remember that this is just a guideline, so go with what feels most
comfortable to you.

The overall fit should be snug and baby may look squished but as long as
you both are comfortable in the baby sling, then you have the right
size. If baby does not seem happy in the baby sling, then get moving as
most babies like to be moving around. You can also try putting a rolled
receiving blanket under your baby to prop him up until he has better
head control. Be sure baby’s chin is not pinned against his chest.

Basic Sling Instructions

Step 1: Folding the Sling

Before you put on your sling, make sure your pouch is folded in half (it
is packaged folded correctly). To do this you will need to fold it in
half lengthwise, with the two sewn sides of the pouch parallel, creating
a “pouch.” (pocket on outside and padded rail on inner edge against your
body).

Step 2: Putting the Sling On

Hold the Peanut Shell(r) baby sling in one hand with the folded edge
nearest your body and the curved seam pointing toward the ground. Slip
the pouch up and over your head, putting the arm that was holding the
pouch through it, and let it come to rest on the opposite shoulder (like
you are Miss Australia and wearing a sash).

Step 3: Proper Placement of the Sling

Before you put baby in your Peanut Shell(r) baby sling make sure the
fabric of the pouch is spread across the ball of your shoulder, NOT up
around your neck (so your shoulder bone should be centered on the fabric
across your shoulder) and smoothed across your back. Your Peanut
Shell(r) should fit snugly to allow for the stretch of the fabric and to
give you the most comfortable carry. The seam should be positioned over
your belly button.

TIP: No matter which position you are using, your baby’s bottom always
goes on the seam, which is curved to create a deep “seat.” For front
cradle or upright carries, position the seam just off-center from your
belly button, about halfway between belly button and hip bone. For hip
carries, it should be at your hip.

On the Campaign Trail

My now 8 month old daughter Millie and I have been hitting the political rally circuit in support of home birth in Australia and wherever we go she is always in her trusty ERGObaby Carrier. On my back, on my front and on my hip,we wouldn’t travel any other way. From Brisbane to Canberra in September for “The Mother of all Rallies”, Millie was quiet and happy in the Ergo continuously from 9am when we landed until 10.30pm when we finally got home. A long day, but she was comfortable and so was I. We breastfed, we cuddled and we had an amazing day standing up for our rights to birth where we went. November, back on the campaign trail again outside KRudd’s office here in Brisbane, Millie again travelled in her trusty Ergo blaring her political message on the front. And with the Ergo backpack accessory we have everything we need for a day or more out on the go, not only for Millie, but for me and her two brothers and Daddy too.

Travels to the United States – Babywearing Style!

We specifically purchased one of your Ergo baby slings to travel with my Lilly to the States in June this year. We didn’t need a stroller…the Ergo baby did it all.

The perks for travel with the Ergo baby for us was the following
a.. I have a big baby and at 12 months wearing the Ergo Baby I could barely feel her weight
b.. Negotiating our way in and out of airports and customs lines, baggage lines and check in lines was a breeze with the sling! Prams crash into people and are hard to negotiate in and around a crowd!
c.. Lilly fell asleep in the Ergo baby a lot! She slept against my chest in the customs line at LAX and we even had to hold her head up to show the customs officer her face!! The sling is like a sedative! That’s proves how comfy they are
d.. Off the beaten track. I was the envy of my friends because I didn’t have to push a stroller up and down hills and rocky paths. With Lil on my back in the Ergo baby it was easy! No path too rocky no beach to boggy!
e.. The Ergo baby is so light and packs up small for travel.
f.. Lilly felt part of the journey. With Lil on my back I felt so close to her when we were walking around exploring. I could talk to her about everything we saw and could feel her peering over my shoulder and looking around. The closeness the sling generated for Lilly and I on our travels made everything feel so special. You can’t feel that when they are in a pram.
g.. Constant comments. People constantly remarked on what a great idea the sling was! Especially in the States!
Clearly my best pre travel purchase I made and that’s the truth!

Babywearing in Madagasacar

Entry by Karen S

I have been conducting paleontological field research in Madagascar for the last 10+ years. When my daughter was born in 2006, I wanted to bring her on my expeditions, and planed to carry her everywhere (something all Malagasy mothers do with their own children). My ERGObaby carrier was perhaps the most important piece of equipment I brought from home! It made the logistical challenge of airports possible (dealing with many duffel bags and field equipment as well as a child), and made the long plane flights manageable as I could breastfeed her and get her to sleep easily. I have used it on two field expeditions (when she was ~8 months and ~ 1 ½ years), and wore her everywhere in Madagascar. She loved being able to see her surroundings yet have the closeness to me.

M&A

My husband and I even used the ERGO to hike her between our two research sites (an 8 hour hike through the rainforest). Not only was she comfortable on our backs, but it kept her entertained and happy for most of the trip!

M&A2

Baby wearing is an integral part of Malagasy culture, and it was very exciting for all of our local friends to see my husband and I wearing our daughter. With another addition to our family in 2008, we plan to wear both of our girls in Madagascar next summer. We wouldn’t have been able to do these research trips without our ERGO, and we will certainly never go into the field without it in the future.
