My ERGObaby Has Seen the Philippines!

18 days in the heart of Manila, a 17 month old toddler and 16 weeks pregnant. The ERGO saved my life!

My Filipino mother booked tickets for a family trip home before I discovered I was pregnant for the second time, and my partner had to stay behind for work commitments. From past visits, we knew a stroller was not going to work in the hustle and bustle of the city, so I pulled out our ERGObaby carrier. My parents, my two sisters and their partners all found the carrier to be well-fitting and comfortable while carrying my 18kg son Ashton, even as he had to be carried in the front position for safety.

My family and extended family at the Manila Ocean Park. My father is wearing Ashton.

Through the mass swine flu epidemic, the stifling heat and humidity, ongoing bouts of traveller’s diarrhoea and the crowds of strangers we drew for having fairer skin, we each carried Ashton in the ERGO no matter how short or long our trip was. We all fell ill at some point, I was constantly fighting off strangers’ attempts to touch my son and we were without the security of seatbelts among other luxuries we’re accustomed to. Ashton slept soundly in the ERGO and loved being close to someone when he was sick, and I was reassured in knowing he was safe and snug with somebody who carried him just as comfortably.

While my family and I have now learnt our lesson about going overseas during a sickness pandemic, the next trip back is definitely quite some time away but I have no doubt in my mind that our ERGObaby carrier will be the first thing I pack in  my carryon luggage. My second child is due in three weeks now and I can’t wait to use the carrier with her!

Thank you.

Wow! You make the ERGObaby carrier sound like a solid investment! You must have really had some good use out of it during the holiday. And isn’t Ashton a cutey – both asleep and awake!

  2. Lillian Hart says:

I never had a baby carrier of this sort when my son was born but am glad it is available for my grandchildren. I am happy that there are products available now for the safety and protection of young children and comfort for new parents and it was a blessing for Sandra and her family for her travels overseas

Thanks for taking the time and writing your story that was a great idea putting your son in the baby carrier. I know it can be hard, people are always trying to touch my children too. I must get me one of these.

After reading your story, the ERGObaby sounds like the way to go! What a great way to stop strangers touching your child because he/she is just ‘too cute’. I also agree that Ashton is a cutie!

I do not have any kids as yet, but seeing how easier it was for you to have the carrier for Ashton while out and about I will definitly be getting one when i have children .. :)

  11. Lauren says:

Sounds great. A lot better than the carrier I have which is really inefective after they are about 12 months. Will have to invest in one.

What a wise and very useful piece of baby equipment to have taken with you Sandra. As a mum of two, I know full well just how hard it would have been to NOT have it there. Being pregnant and having a tired and cranky toddler who doesn’t particularly want to walk everywhere is a trial in itself and it saves having to take those horrible strollers.
Definitely a useful piece that will come in very handy with your baby girl :-)

  13. Reegan says:

Having strangers try and touch your children sounds like a nightmare. Keeping a barrier between your kids and the unwanted attention of strangers would be at the top of my security requirements. The ERGObaby is a method of protection that I would not have thought of without your article.

Thanks for the solid advice and interesting read.

  14. Connie says:

The carrier really was very comfortable, even with Ashton being so heavy! It definitely made getting around a lot easier too :)

  15. Quinten says:

I think the carrier was very helpful on our trip, carrying around that boy is hard work especially for the amount of time we were out and about! Having the carrier made it comfortable and less straining on our backs and arms!!!
